WORKS IN TRANSLATION: Poetic Expressions in Indigenous Literatures explored the translation of Indigenous poetics in Zapotec, Nahuatl, and Tu’un Savi.
Our brilliant panelists—educator Janet Chavez Santiago, scholar Dr. Diego Arenas, and poet Nadia Lopez Garcia—shared their invaluable insights on the beauty, complexity, and resilience of Indigenous languages in literature. Their work continues to inspire efforts in language revitalization and literary translation.
This program is presented as part of Latino Poetry: Places We Call Home, a major public humanities initiative taking place across the nation in 2024 and 2025, directed by Library of America and funded with generous support from the National Endowment for the Humanities and Emerson Collective. The program is additionally backed by a grant provided by Humanities Texas and the promotional efforts of our partner, UNAM San Antonio Texas.
