Bruja
Wendy C. Ortiz
Since the beginning of time we have been fascinated and intrigued by dreams and their meanings. An alternative reality that peeks through the window of our subconscious where anything can happen. Bruja, by Wendy C. Ortiz, is a crossover of this parallel world onto ours. A collection of dreams, or dreamoir as the author calls it, that explores the author's surreal experiences in a nude, vulnerable and unapologetic fashion. From sexual exploits, to interactions with famous people, shark attacks, and random encounters that can be described as odd, funny, irrational and bizarre at times, Wendy Ortiz takes us on a voyage within the intimacy of her subconscious with a narrative that is not bound to any traditional forms or literary guidelines. It is a bold style that breaks away from the world of rules and regulations. In 1635, Calderón de la Barca wrote his famous book La vida es un sueño, questioning the realism of life, suggesting that everything we experience might be a dreamlike fantasy. Today, we have a Latina from Los Angeles making us feel quite the opposite, that dreams, such as the ones in Bruja, are as real and tangible as anything else, pushing modern literary boundaries and presenting readers a new form of reality. |
