Roma and Cuarón Make History

​Roma made history tonight. The film directed by Alfonso Cuarón received a total of 3 Oscars at the 91st Academy Awards. Alfonso Cuarón won an Academy Award for Best Cinematography and another for Best Director. He became the first person to win an Oscar for Best Cinematography on a movie he also directed. Roma also made history by receiving an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, making it the first Mexican film to win this award. For those who have not watched Roma yet, it is available on Netflix and limited theaters.

Alan Gerardo Padilla Aguilar specializes in Mexican and Mexican American history. He has been honored with a State of Texas Joint Resolution for his work with the local community. He was chosen to participate in the Harvard Latino Leadership Initiative program at Harvard Kennedy School in 2013. He was also a research assistant for the PBS documentary, "The Head of Joaquin Murrieta."
