Rizzoli Bookstore
One of the Most Beautiful Bookstores in the U.S.
On an ordinary walk through Broadway Street in New York, you can hear the steps on the asphalt leading you to Rizzoli Bookstore—an echo of the countless steps that have found their way to the realm of multilingual books and magazines. With an extensive catalog of books in Italian, French and Spanish, Rizzoli Bookstore is considered one of the foremost independent bookstores in America, specializing in literature, photography, architecture, interior design, culinary, and the fine and applied arts. Rizzoli is indeed one of the most beautiful bookstores in the US. |
With ongoing literary and artistic events, this unique bookstore in the NoMad neighborhood is three blocks north of the cultural heart of Madison Square Park. Its wooden shelves extend a warm welcome, while the checkered floor matches every step with thought provoking, highly curated books and magazines. The dazzling cast iron chandeliers mark an almost required stop at the Art History section, marked with golden letters. This golden inscription repeats in every shelve, calling you to discover the rest of the treasure.
Established in 1964, this bookstore has been a literary landmark for over fifty years, and since then has created a sophisticated, bountiful space to step away from the Manhattan rush. While you are in Rizzoli, browsing through their selection of European magazines and newspapers, take part in the experience created by classical revivalist architects and look outside the Diocletian window—imagine a world where a multitude of illustrations and words coexist in lucid harmony.
Occupying the ground floor level of the historic St. James Building, dating back to the 19th century, this captivating eighteen-foot ceiling library is compromised with a wide range of avant-garde art and literature that procures the exploration of all senses. Every avid reader should come to Rizzoli and lose themselves in the peaked skylight, enter through the red mullioned pivot door, and follow the music of languages converging and broadening perspectives.
Look for the red doors, find your reflection on the glass, in the stories stacked under the mural of clouds. If you get lost in this 5,000 square foot library, look for a magazine cover. Perhaps a cover with a black abyss where two brown hands are creating color through their unity—the cover of Latino Book Review Magazine. |
