Río Ánimas
Pilo Galindo
Pilo Galindo (Nov. 10, 1957) is a Mexican scriptwriter and narrator from Ciudad Juarez. He has lived in the border city all his life, and has won several national literary awards.
His play, Río Ánimas, is a story about love, abandonment and mystical beliefs that communicates the feelings of the inhabitants of a remote village, where the means of transportation are horseback riding and helicopter due to the inhospitable nature of the landscape.
"Love is a plight that leaves no one unharmed", is the phrase that marks much of the work, which promises to present a full color “radionovela”, inspired by the love of a young couple. When read, it is a very interesting play, but to see the stage production by the well-known border director, Perla De La Rosa, is an unforgettable experience that takes you back in time. Río Ánimas is a melodrama of magical realism, reborn in the state of Chihuahua. Located in 1968 in a very remote area, the story is told by radio announcers and actors dressed for the occasion. The special effects used in the radio stations are described in detail. All of our senses are needed in order to bring forth our sixth sense, imagination.
