The Remembering Day / El Día de los Muertos
Pat Mora

Picture

The Remembering Day / El Día de los Muertos is a wonderful children's book by Pat Mora that speaks volumes of family values, love and traditions. The realistic and warm illustrations by Robert Casilla and the masterful translation to Spanish by Gabriela Baeza Ventura are emblematic in themselves, as they emphasize and embrace the beauty of our Latino heritage.

This is the heartfelt story of a loving grandmother, Mamá Alma, and her caring granddaughter Bella, whose deep an unbreakable bond continues even after life. From gardening and weaving, to cooking, playing and star gazing, Mamá Alma teaches Bella the essential things in life, including how to remember those who are no longer with us.

This tender story will teach readers, children and adults alike, the wisdom and beauty of our Mexican tradition, El día de los muertos. It will also teach us the importance of remembering and honoring those who have passed away as well as those who are still with us.
Pat Mora (El Paso, Texas) is a literary advocate and the award-winning writer of over forty books of poetry, nonfiction and children's books. She is the founder of the national literacy initiative El día de los niños, El día de los libros / Children's Day, Book Day.

THE BIRTH OF A UNIVERSE: THE MAYA SCIENCE OF PREGNANCY
Everything contains life. Everything is interconnected, stars, plants, and people. So begins The Birth of a Universe, a profound exegesis by Apabyan Tew, a K’iche Maya midwife and daykeeper. Apabyan Tew explores the 260-day Maya calendar just as we are bound to the planets that gave birth to that divinatory calendar, our conception, growth, and destiny guided bynawales, the spirits of the days. The Birth of a Universe is a unique book that represents a vision of the world rarely presented by a Maya author.
