Tengo un cielo en la cocina
Laura Carnovale
Tengo un cielo en la cocina is the first poetry book by the Argentinian author Laura Carnovale. In her synchronism of the words, the reader discovers intimate nuances that lie within the literary symbolism of a home and everything in it, such as values, roots, the intimate space, and the memories the author holds dearly. "La cocina" is that nook where the poet juxtaposes her dialectic self and her daily home duties which seem to get in the way as she fights to find a space for her literary creation. In this poetic collection of daily life, words rebel against routine. They submerge themselves in cups, they boil themselves in the vapor of pots and drip water into the sink. Other times, they escape through windows and become lost in the streets, but they always come back, to find the place where they belong. "Las palabras encuentran lugar/ entre el olor a tomillo y laurel/ de la comida del domingo" (día 22). |
Tengo un cielo en la cocina is a book filled with symbols and images, where sincere and unadorned words set our eyes on ordinary beauty. Laura Carnovale invites us to her table for tea, she makes us her confidant and lets us become part of her world. "un perfume, siempre conocido,/ se pegó a las cosas/ como se pega a la piel, lo cotidiano./ Y no hizo falta abrir las ventanas/ ni volar el techo/ para sentir el cielo/ sobre mi." (día 31).
