Latino Book Review to Honor Four Distinguished Recipients at 10th Anniversary Gala in San Antonio
In the last decade, Latino Book Review has become a leading platform dedicated to celebrating, promoting, and preserving literature, arts, and culture across the United States and beyond. Through our magazine, podcast, interviews, reviews, and cultural initiatives, Latino Book Review has connected readers, writers, artists, scholars, and cultural leaders from diverse communities and countries, creating a space where these stories and perspectives are recognized as an essential part of the world’s cultural conversation. To commemorate this milestone, Latino Book Review will host its 10th Anniversary Gala, a fundraising event celebrating the organization’s continued mission to elevate literature and cultural achievement on a global scale. The gala will honor four distinguished recipients with the Latino Book Review Cultural Legacy Award, recognizing individuals whose contributions have left a lasting impact on literature, history, education, and cultural preservation.
This year’s honorees include Cherríe Moraga, in recognition of her groundbreaking writing, editorial leadership, and lifelong cultural advocacy; Edgar Castro Zapata, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the legacy of his great-grandfather, General Emiliano Zapata, and the preservation of Zapatista history; Alfredo Ávalos, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to fostering Spanish-language literature and culture in the United States; and Carmen Tafolla, in recognition of her extraordinary contributions as a poet, storyteller, educator, and cultural ambassador.
Together, these four figures represent the many ways cultural legacy is created and sustained. Through literature, historical preservation, education, and artistic expression, their work has expanded the visibility of diverse experiences and contributed to a broader understanding of the histories and narratives that connect our communities across borders.
The Cultural Legacy Award reflects Latino Book Review’s ongoing commitment to recognizing individuals whose work transcends generations and geographies.
